Richmond

The award-winning city of Richmond in Metro Vancouver is an archipelago of islands. It is situated at the prime location where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean. Richmond's flourishing population of roughly 225,000 is an eclectic combination of ethnicities - mostly of Asian origin.

The city prides itself on its diversity, administrative and management capabilities, ongoing economic development plans, public transport facilities and international seaports. Richmond does not just offer a plethora of recreational and cultural options for its residents; the Richmond Olympic Oval is a grand icon from its 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Richmond experiences a dry and temperate coastal climate. In its estuaries, the city supports a delicate ecology for migratory birds. The beautiful environs also include extensive green spaces and waterfront hiking and cycling trails. Richmond’s Sustainability Framework, which focuses on conservation, is among its active environmental protection efforts.

Tsawwassen

Tsawwassen, North Delta and Ladner together form the Delta region in Metro Vancouver. This region lies to the south of the Fraser River and is defined by wetlands, farms, a migration sanctuary for rare species, ferry routes and a coastline opening out into the undulating Pacific Ocean.

In fact, the term "Tsawwassen" means "sea-facing" in the language of the Coast Salish First Nation people, the original inhabitants of the Delta region for whom this land is nothing less than sacred. Today, the Tsawwassen First Nation is administered by its own government.

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is a significant point of contact between Metro Vancouver and the islands around. Known for its natural beauty, Tsawwassen has an interesting mix of parks, wildlife management areas, beaches, harbours, marshlands, hiking trails, dykes, birdwatching spots, scuba diving spaces, farmers' markets, architectural heritage sites and bustling modern urban facilities.

Ladner

Once a quiet fishing village on the Fraser River, the area grew under the English-born Thomas and William Ladner to become an enterprising farming and fishing hub in the 19th century. The town of Ladner gradually became more accessible with the subsequent development of ferry routes and the George Massey Tunnel in the 1950s.

While today's Ladner has its share of malls, offices, public swimming pools, supermarkets and stores, one finds heritage architecture in the neighbourhood of Ladner Village. Within Ladner town is a set of islands, and its waterways once facilitated boats. The canals are now the haunt of fishing enthusiasts and are surrounded by lush green spaces. The picturesque Ladner has lent itself as a film shooting location several times.
